In the first half of the month, I finished refactoring the 1st POV’s outline; I’m pleased with how it turned out. The story will be stronger for it.
In the second, I received my developmental edit back! Lots of great feedback here: some that I enjoyed hearing, others that I needed to hear. I took some time absorbing it and responding. We’ll discuss in the coming days.
(I spent quite a bit of time in Microsoft Word, dealing with Track Changes, comments, and writing up my thoughts and questions. I didn’t expect Word to be quite so different from Google Docs, but I feel somewhat competent in Word now.)
I had known that the 2nd POV had a number of scenes that needed significant reworking. The developmental edit strongly confirmed that. I’m going to significantly refactor the 2nd POV and add some 3rd POV scenes. Draft 6 will be a significant rewrite, but not the largest I’ve done :)
I also sent the manuscript out to a 2nd beta reader. We’ll see if their feedback matches the other two.
Plans for August
My primary tasks for August:
Discuss the book with my developmental editor. And if I get the 2nd beta reader’s feedback, absorb that and fold it in.
I want to rework the outline for the 2nd POV until I’m pleased with it. I also need to plan the additional scenes for the 3rd POV.
I haven’t decided if I want to rewrite in book order or focus on each POV individually. Perhaps the latter, with the caveat that I need to re-read the finished draft in book order. If so, I could start rewriting the 1st POV while I brainstorm the 2nd and 3rd.
